We wanted to take some time to explain what the Folkestone 52 Hour Film Challenge is and how it came about.
We both like making films - acting, writing, editing - you name it, and really enjoyed making a short film together with some friends one weekend (you can watch it here) for the Colchester Film Festival's 60 Hour Film Challenge. We decided we wanted to do some more, but the next timed challenge we found had a $100 entry fee we weren't keen on paying.
Instead of taking part in that challenge we decided to do our own, picking criteria at random from some books. Again, this was really fun - you can see the results here, and we thought it would be great to open the challenge up to other people.
These film challenge weekends are hard work but very fun and rewarding. It can be tough to come up with ideas sometimes, and easy to put things off, but the combination of the criteria and the time limit is a great way of getting ideas out and making them happen without being too concerned about getting things perfect or worrying about making mistakes.
As well as being a lot of fun we both learnt a lot from these challenges and hope that other people will get the same benefits out of them that we did!
